During the Spieker Point Inc. open house, Walter Schwabe from FusedLogic TV interviews Lori Schmidt, CEO of Productivity Alberta about using technology to improve productivity.

Walter Schwabe:

“We’re here at Spieker Point Software Engineering and Solutions at their open house and eighth anniversary. Welcome to FusedLogic TV. I’m your host Walter Schwabe. We’re here at Spieker Point. We’re here having an open house and a lot of fun as well. We’re joined by Lori Schmidt from Productivity Alberta. Hello Lori how are you?”

Lori Schmidt:

“I’m great thanks glad to be here.”

Walter Schwabe:

“Thank you for coming on and talking to us a little bit about technology adoption in Productivity Alberta and across the province in general. What are your thoughts on that?”

Lori Schmidt:

“Well we’ve found that companies that use technology effectively and efficiently within their operations have a huge opportunity to increase their competitiveness and their productivity. Simple things even like automating invoicing systems to design capabilities to any financial processes taking a look at materials and how they’re utilizing materials within their operations is all examples of how technology can be used.”

Walter Schwabe:

“So we’re seeing a migration going from pen and paper to software essentially is what you’re saying.”

Lori Schmidt:

“Absolutely.”

Walter Schwabe:

“Right. Let’s talk a little bit about analytics as you know Spieker Point is very good at analytics. Let’s talk about how Productivity Alberta has started to use analytics within the organization.”

Lori Schmidt:

“Well we do two things we look at data that we collect within our own organization to look at how we can be more effective and efficient and then we also use that with the companies that we work with to show them how data capture data processes can be valuable for them in being more productive and efficient. Some of the challenges with that however is that smaller companies don’t believe that it’s that data analytics or collecting data is even valuable to them so there’s a lot around awareness and communication of the value of analytics.”

Walter Schwabe:

“It could be that it’s a lot of work to get the job done and they’re probably just overwhelmed a bit by it.”

Lori Schmidt:

“Or they make assumptions that it’s only for big companies and they don’t realize that they’re already collecting a lot of data that could be of great value to you know future things that they could be doing within the operation.”

Walter Schwabe:

“Looking for opportunity for growth.”

Lori Schmidt:

“Absolutely.”

Walter Schwabe:

“Lori thank you so much for joining us on FusedLogic TV and talking about analytics. I’d like to say thank you very much to Lori Schmidt from Productivity Alberta for joining us at Spieker Point. Stay Tuned.”
